The Toastmasters Program
While the primary reason most people join Toastmasters is to get over their fear of public speaking, Toastmasters provides much more than that! There are two educational tracks that members can work on simultaneously:
Communication Track
The Competent Communication (CC) manual has ten projects to increase a speaker's skills and confidence. Each project emphasizes a key element, including vocal variety, gestures, effective speech organization, persuasion, and even practice using visual aids.
Completion of this manual gives a member the distinction of "Competent Communicator". Advanced manuals give members the opportunity to earn Advanced Communicator Bronze (ACB), Advanced Communicator Silver (ACS), and Advanced Communicator Gold (ACG) distinction.
Leadership Track
The Competent Leadership (CL) manual has ten projects to improve a speaker's leadership skills, especially meeting and event management. Each project emphasizes a key leadership element, including giving feedback, planning, organization and delegation, mentoring, and team building. Most of these projects are performed at the club level.
Completion of this manual earns a member the distinction of "Competent Leader". Members then have the opportunity to put those newly-learned skills to practical use by becoming a club or district officer, by coaching and mentoring other Toastmasters or clubs, and by completing a High Potential Leadership program. Members can earn the distinction of Advanced Leader Bronze (ALB) and Advanced Leader Silver (ALS).
A Toastmaster who successfully earns the Advanced Communicator Gold (ACG) award and the Advanced Leader Silver (ALS) award will then achieve the highest distinction in the program: Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM).
